Long Day

It is almost 7:00 pm on the day of surgery and Emma is resting comfortably.  Fred and I are a bit apprehensive about what the future holds, because she had a nerve block and she still has no feeling in most of her left leg.  That's great for Emma!  We're just trying to enjoy it while it lasts.  Emma has been amazing her doctors and nurses all day.  She is very perky, pleasant and eager to impress her nurses with how self-sufficient she can be.

The nurse in the recovery room said she went from a deep sleep to spitting her air tube out, smiling and saying, "I'm awake!"  We got to observe the other children in the recovery room coming out of anesthesia and many were crying, whining and very grumpy (not that I blame them!).  Emma, while sleepy, entertained the nurses with pleasant chit chat.  :)

Once she was moved to her room, she began drinking and even enjoyed a popsicle.  Here she is enjoying the moment...

We had a very nice visit with Aunt Christina this afternoon.  Thanks so much, Christina!

By this evening, Emma was eager to order off the "room service" menu...

And ate like she hadn't eaten in a week!

Here's to hoping the nerve block lasts through the night so she can get a good night's sleep.  At this point, I think she is more alert and in better shape than her Mom and Dad.  :)
